Inbox to Boombox #1

by g.o.a.t Hip Hop

It has been a minute since we dropped something new on the blog, but thanks to everyone who has been logging on and adding themselves to the Facebook group

Like everywhere across the globe, summer is a busy time for family, work, vacations, and music. Japan is no different.

Recently, we have been flooded with new music and wanted to share some of this on the site. Typically those duties have been handled by our resident connoisseur StrongArm, but my inbox is full, so I am going to drop a few posts here and there.

Introducing Inbox to Boombox. Volume 1. Summer Edition

Liana Bank$ - Ghost

Ill joint from the self proclaimed R&B Trap princess. I love when songwriters finally get a chance to break out on their own and fully realize their talent. This goes for the summer…

Chaka Khan ft. B. Slade - I Love Myself

Like do I even need to intro this? I mean Chaka Chaka, a Chaka Khan…#soulmusic

Musiq Soulchild - Start Over

Big fan of this brother. Got many a joint of his on vinyl and this one does not disappoint. He actually dropped 2 videos in my inbox, so check this one and then also peep another new joint dropped at the same time, Simple Things.

Terrace Martin Presents The Pollyseeds - Sounds Of Crenshaw Vol. 1

Big fan of Soulspazm and what they have put out over the years (including my former tour mate Hezekiah`s projects). Terrace Martin has worked with too many folks to name and is at the forefront of the So Cal jazz, funk, beat culture, and did some heavy lifting on many a Kendrick Lamar project. Big ups to Fusicology for sending this out as part of their #MusicMonday.

Mr. Lif & Akrobatik aka The Perceptionists - Dirty Drumz (Free Download)

Off the new album, “Resolution”, their first collaborative project in over a decade. Both of these dudes is underground heavyweights and have put out dope projects as a tandem and as solo artists. The beat reminds me of some Dj Krush/Shadow type boom. Mello Music Group has really been putting out dope music over these last few years.

Supastition - Thanks, Ghost

Supastition lets loose his new self-produced single, “Thanks, Ghost”. The song is inspired by one of hip hop’s greatest storytellers, Ghostface Killah, as Supa documents some humorous incidents that happened while ironically listening to Ghost. This serves as the first song in the “Solitaire” monthly series where Supastition handles all of the writing, recording, production, and graphic design for each single. (courtesy of Dj Sav One)

David Strickland Featuring Violent Ground, Drezus, Que Rock, Joey Stylez & Hellnback - Rez Life

Rez Life is about life on the reservation. What it's like for native youth. A glimpse into rez life for the outside world. I dug this not only because it reminds me of some old school West Coast realty rap, the laid back vibe actually works well with the content.

Jacob Banks - Part Time Love

Throwback soul joint from Nigerian born, England based singer. Got that John Legend influence running through it, but in a good way. Feel free to sing along to the lyrics included at the bottom of the video.

TOBACCO - Slaughtered by the Amway Guy

Currently touring with Nine Inch Nails, this is a heavy industrial boom bap joint that reminds me of some Jel, Aphex Twin, Tuesday night dive bar beat battle. Rewound this a few times. Dope.

Paulie Rhyme is an American born, Japan based, artist, writer in teacher who loves the culture.
